I am in need of some more titles LOL. I don't want to repeat so I am just going to put either hearts or smiles or something in the title. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.
This evening I rode Navajo and decided I am going to pay attention to me and see in what ways I as a rider can improve. Well I figured out that I need to make sure I keep my heels down and obviously move with my horse and be more depenent on my leg/body cues instead of my voice and rein cues. Toward the end I got a little sore because to build up my muscles in my legs I do posting without a saddle and believe me your legs hurt after a bit. Good exercise.
I then figured I would pay attention to how he responds to my cues and how quickly. He does very well with my leg/rein cues to move over. I want to work on the sidepass but am going to start that next week so he is fresh. Anyway as I said he is good with leg/rein cues. Amber Wolbeck gave me some tips on how to use my seat/legs to stop a horse and to back them up right after they are stopped so they don't hollow their back, lift their heads and go on their front legs which is hard on their navicular bones. Got that from Amber. So that is what I worked on. First I used my seat and reins to stop him with a gentle whoa. Then I went into stopping him using my seat and reins and a gentle whoa and then backing up. Eventually I want to just use my seat/virbal and leg cues to stop him. An so far it is going quite well and I am quite proud of him:)
